Stop The Traffik Evening

AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING was the first in a series of events hosted at the London School of Theology (LST), in support of the STOP THE TRAFFIK campaign.

STOP THE TRAFFIK is a global movement, which is fighting to prevent the sale of people, protect those who have been trafficked and to help ensure that traffickers are prosecuted once they have been identified. It was founded by Steve Chalke, MBE, founder of the well-known Christian organisation OASIS. Steve is also an author, businessman, UN.GIFT Special Advisor on Community Action Against Human Trafficking and arguably one of the country’s most successful social entrepreneurs.

“The issue of human trafficking is of deadly seriousness. I was delighted to come and speak about it at LST because the college is at the heart of training students who want to make a difference to the world. Social Justice Groups such as the one at LST are vital components in engineering social change.”

AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING: An evening with Steve Chalke, was the first in a series of events, which took place at LST on 30th October 2012. The aim of the event was to highlight and expose the horrific facts behind human trafficking and to inform people about some opportunities to make a difference. The Social Justice Group at LST wanted to do something to raise awareness of human trafficking and the idea was born to invite Steve to come and speak on the subject.

“It was amazing to see this vision become reality last Tuesday when over 130 people came to hear Steve speak on human trafficking and ask, among other things, what we can practically do to make a difference. As a result of this event some people are currently thinking of setting up ACT groups (Active Communities against Trafficking) linked with STOP THE TRAFFIK in Harrow and Watford.”

The next event in the series will be: BRINGING HOPE TO SHATTERED LIVES - a fundraising concert in aid of STOP THE TRAFFIK. The concert will follow the story of a trafficked girl from shattered dreams to restored hope and freedom. It will take place on 22nd February 2012, at 7.30pm, in the Chapel at LST.
