This module aims to develop your skills as an interpreter. It will help you to confront your own assumptions and traditions, as well as evaluating a variety of reading strategies. It contains two parts:
1. Biblical Hermeneutics analyses the principles and methods involved in discovering the significance of the Bible for today and develops your skills via the study of a variety of exegetical issues and techniques, e.g. the nature of words, language, discourse and literary analysis.
2. Modern Hermeneutics will help you to develop an understanding of the vital underlying issues that control interpretation and explore the dynamic interplay between interpreter, text and Spirit.
The knowledge and skills gained in this core module are then applied in the other two modules and the dissertation.
