Areas of special interest: Johannine Theology and Literature, Pauline Theology, Romans, Hebrews, Revelation, Biblical Hermeneutics, Theology and Psychology
Steve combines being an Anglican ‘Rev’ with eldership at a local Free Evangelical Church. He's married with three children, and for recreation plays the piano and rides his Marin mountain bike. He studied at Cambridge, Bristol, London and Tubingen Universities and has written scholarly books on Romans 9-11, and the 'Jews' in John's Gospel. Currently his chief biblical project is a commentary on Hebrews for the 'Two Horizons' series. He has also written extensively at a more popular level. Recently his lifelong interest in hermeneutics has extended into looking at the relationship between psychology and theology, and he is training as a psychotherapist in connection with leading the Theology and Counselling programme at the School.
Steve has a wide range of research interests, including John's Gospel (both literature and theology), Paul, Hebrews and Revelation in the New Testament area, as well as Hermeneutics and the interface between Christian theology and anthropology on the one hand, and contemporary psychology and psychotherapy on the other. With this combination, it's not surprising that he's also interested in the impact of psychology on biblical interpretation, and in the 'psychological' reading of biblical texts!
