His desire to dovetail the gospel with social transformation led him to study theology at the Union Biblical Seminary, Pune and the United Theological College, Bangalore, where after completing his Masters he joined the faculty as Lecturer in Biblical Studies.
He earned his PhD from the University of Cambridge under Prof Graham Davies and his thesis The Sanctuary of Bethel and the Configuration of Israelite Identity was published in the BZAW monograph series by Walter de Gruyter.
Jules is an ordained Anglican minister and has served as a pastor both in India and England. He is a regular speaker at retreats, conferences and in churches ranging from Syrian Orthodox to charismatic and has been a regular contributor to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. Until recently he was Co-ordinating Chaplain to the University of Greenwich, Trinity College of Music and the Old Royal Naval College Chapel, where he enjoyed a thriving ministry among staff, students and young urban professionals. He is the author of five books and a number of articles. For over 20 years he has endeavoured in every aspect of his ministry to teach and apply the whole of the Bible to contemporary issues. In addition to his academic interests, he is particularly passionate about how the Old Testament can be used in the ministry of the Church and in the wider world.
Jules is a priest of the Church of England belonging to the Diocese of London. He is married to Rekha, a full-time intercessor. Jules enjoys classical and jazz music, reading everything from Wodehouse to Wittgenstein, target shooting and the English countryside.
