Zimbe!

London School of Theology’s (LST) choir gave a colourful and exuberant performance of the Zulu written Zimbe. LST’s chapel was transformed into a colourful African setting.

African dancers from a local church in Harrow gave an impressive performance to start the evening, with the choir and members of the audience joining in. Choir Director Sarah Stroh then led the choir and audience in the opening song, Siyahamba (We are marching).

The evening’s repertoire included songs from Ghana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The story took the audience through a typical African day from sunrise to sunset. Particular songs focused on different aspects of life including a wedding song, a funeral song and a drunken man’s song.

One of the most moving songs of the evening was a Xhosa lullaby for mothers of young men in prison, victims of Apartheid. Children from Jubliate Juniors, a local group led by Sarah Stroh, joined in with the mother’s song as well as a children’s playground song among others.

The evening raised £300 for the charity Making A Difference.
