BibleFresh Saturdays @ LST

Through the entire of 2011, and on into the summer of 2012, LST is hosting a series of study days. This is part of our contribution to the BibleFresh initiative. The series will significantly develop your appreciation and understanding of the Bible. Speakers have been drawn both from the LST faculty and major British Evangelical Scholars. Each day will be a complete experience in and of itself. As a whole experience, though, our study days will provide an excellent introduction to different parts of Scripture. We believe this will have a direct impact on your understanding of the Bible.

The whole event comprises a total of seventeen Saturdays spread through a year and a half. There are three part-series within the whole scheme for you to consider. We kick off with seven sessions on the Old Testament, taking us through winter and spring 2010. After the August break we continue with seven sessions on the New Testament. Finally, in Spring 2012 we conclude with three sessions thinking about the Bible itself.

Who would want to come?
These study days are particularly suited for beginners to theological discussion and investigation. You're looking for something far beyond a recitation of the contents of the different parts of the Bible; any of us can get that just from reading it. You want someone to explain the background issues that provide the biblical worldview. You'll be keen to have the toughest of issues raised. You’re not afraid to think through the most challenging of problems, though you know full well that you won't work to a ‘final’ answer in a single day. At LST you'll discover a safe environment in which to explore things. We're not in the entertainment business, but we promise you a stimulating day of lectures, interaction and discussion. So if you want to be stretched, to be stirred up, or want to have a go at chewing some meat, then you'll find this an ideal series.

Content for each Day

There will be four teaching sessions per Saturday, each 50 minutes long. The day formally starts at 10am (sharp) and finishes at 3:30pm.

Visiting Speakers
In addition to members of the current LST faculty, we are very pleased to have several distinguished evangelical scholars joining us. All are renowned both for their scholarship and for the accessibility of their teaching.
From LST’s recent retirees, Mary Evans joins us for a day on a topic many of us will recognize as her particular speciality.  Gordon Wenham has for many years now been Britain’s foremost scholar on the Pentateuch, being internationally recognized for his commentaries on Leviticus and Numbers. Walter Moberly teaches at the University of Durham. His gentle spirit and personality manifests itself in his love of the Old Testament and communicating it clearly and passionately.
