FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Who is WCCS for?

Everyone, irrespective of religious background or commitment. WCCS seeks to support the work of church leaders, GPs and other caring professionals by offering a counselling service for their clients, as well as for individuals of any age who wish to refer themselves.

What happens when I book an initial appointment?

Initially you will have an appointment with Marion Rideout, the Counselling Manager, or an appropriately trained assessor where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have regarding counselling. If at the end of the appointment you decide counselling may be helpful and we believe we can assist you, we will discuss at what regular times you can come and when counselling is likely to begin. Our Counselling Service operates from the counselling rooms in The Barn in the centre of Watford (you will find more details in the sections ‘getting in touch’ and ‘where to find us’) and is open on Mondays and Tuesdays, 10.00am-9.00pm and also on Thursday Evenings 5.00pm-9.00pm.

How often and for how long will I receive counselling?

Counselling sessions are once a week for 50 minutes. Counselling will continue for as long as both the client and counsellor feel it is useful.

Will I see the same counsellor every week?

Yes.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. Counselling is a private and confidential service and we will therefore not give your name or divulge any information about you outside WCCS unless someone’s safety is at risk or we are obliged to do so by law.

What happens if I have to cancel a session?

Once counselling begins we ask you to keep your appointments. If you have to cancel an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. If you miss an appointment without giving us 24 hours notice, we may have to charge for the missed session.

How much do you charge?

In order to help us cover the cost of running the Service, we ask for a contribution for each session, a highly subsidised rate, on the following scale:

Is WCCS professionally recognised?

WCCS is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and is also a member of the Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC). WCCS counsellors have trained at London School of Theology, in Northwood, Middlesex. Their counselling training courses are accredited with the BACP and all our counsellors follow the ACC Ethics and practice as well as BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

What if I cannot afford to pay for counselling?

If you have any questions about cost please talk to a member of staff at your first assessment session (which is free of charge).
