BA Hons in Theology & Counselling [Level 3]

Full-Time students at Level 3 will study a total of 120 compulsory credits during the 2010-2011 academic year. Part-time students will normally take the first two listed here in their second part-time year, and the rest in their first part-time year.

The Bible and People of God: Then and Now

The theme of 'the people of God' is explored in various dimensions, as we explore what 'biblical theology' is all about, and look at some key biblical texts – Deuteronomy, Isaiah, John and Romans.

Theology and Counselling Project

An opportunity to develop a research project of your own, exploring a topic close to your heart under the supervision of two members of staff (a counsellor and a theologian).

Spirituality and the Therapeutic Journey

Provides the theoretical background to help students reflect on their counselling experience, as well as providing additional skills training to be applied in Field Work.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Students will be equipped to develop practice skills and apply cognitive behavioural theory to a variety of clinical issues. Due to the primarily clinical nature of this module, the emphasis will be on class demonstrations and regular practice of clinical skills.

Systems of Relationship

Synthesis of themes drawn from theology and systematic therapy sources. Extends students’ skills in counselling couples, families and other groups.

Group Supervision

Designed to deepen students’ awareness of and familiarity with issues and interventions in counselling practice. This module builds upon students’ experience at level 2 and deepens students’ awareness of the impact of theory on practice and vice versa.

Field Work 3

Allows students to draw together skills and knowledge acquired throughout the course to further their practical experience (in actual placement or agency setting) and skills development.

Reflective Process

An experiential module in which learning occurs mainly through the interaction of students with each other in a group setting. Tutors will also provide insight on the purpose and processes of Reflective Practice.
